Rick Specializes in…
Rick has assisted many riders in achieving USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold medals. He’s coached at the USDF National Championships, the NAJYRC Championships and many USDF Regional Championships!
Rick has served as a dressage / flat-work coach for some of the top ranking equitation riders in the country, on their way to the ASPCA Maclay Championships. During winter competition season Rick utilizes his stables day-off to coach equitation riders at The Winter Equestrian Festival. In recent years top equitation trainers, most notably George Morris, have stressed how essential dressage fundamentals are to every rider. Offseason, Rick has served as a clinician for several top equitation programs across the country, as well as at Ivy League Universities including Harvard and Brown.
Rick has an absolute wealth of experience in young horses. Both Lullaby and Starlight, who Rick trained and competed through Grand Prix were purchased and imported as four-year-olds. Three consecutive placements at the Young Horse National Championships, culminating in a Bronze finish and a position as an alternate for the Young Horse World Championships are highlights of Rick’s competition experience in the FEI Young Horse divisions. Over the years Rick has systematically developed numerous young horses to the FEI levels of dressage, resulting in record-setting prices both in Germany at The Oldenburg Verband’s Elite auction as well as in Switzerland.
Hunter and Jumpers
Initially, Rick began his riding career as a three-day eventer, competing through preliminary. Later in his riding career, after competing internationally in dressage, Rick was fortunate to have the approved Dutch Warmblood stallion Staccato stand at Dream Street Stallions. Staccato was known for his production of show jumpers and eventers, and though he was trained to the FEI levels of dressage, Staccato’s owner allowed Rick to train over fences with Olympian Kevin Babington and the pair competed successfully through 1.20 meters. Over the years Rick has assisted several riders in obtaining their goals in both the hunter and jumper arenas.
